Satya: Step into Your Truth

Satya, the second + one of the yamas, goes beyond honesty. It’s living, speaking, + breathing truth. Embrace authenticity, express your true self, + cultivate deep connections.

Getting Honest

If one were to describe satya + its qualities + feels, they would use words like: honesty, truth, integrity, trust, sincerity, genuine.

Our belief system, our values HAVE to align with our actions + behaviors otherwise we’re being hypocritical.

So if we believe truthfulness, satya, to be a virtuous quality + we don’t believe in being deceitful, false, fake, dishonest, disloyal then we have to live by those values internally.

Just like all of the yamas + niyamas, it’s not just about learning about the teachings, but very much living them. We can live a life inspired by Satya through our behaviors, actions + thoughts.

Practicing satya personally is liberating, empowering, + in alignment with all the high vibrations that bring us joy, fulfillment – basically all the things that help us live our #bestlife.

It’s COMPLETELY personal. We’re all unique + we need to discover, find + connect with the things that truthfully make our souls happy.

Practicing yoga (practicing satya) helps us to discover our happiness, passion, purpose + freedom.

HOWEVER, many of us (myself included many years ago!) don’t live in alignment with our truth. We hang around with toxic people rather than like-minded souls. We’re in jobs that don’t light us up rather than light up our dreams. We have passions + hobbies that we only do once in a blue moon.

Live in Your Alignment

“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.” – Oscar Wilde

Yoga teaches us to LIVE life. Not just exist.

So how can you find your truth + practice Satya?

Good question! (Questions are POWER)

We need to keep taking time until you are you again. The true you. The one that is in flow, expansion + alignment. The one that connects with what FEELS right, not wrong.

How do you do that? By DOING the things that make you feel like you. And LETTING GO of the things that don’t make you feel like you.

“If it raises your vibration, it’s for you. That’s how you’ll know. If it lowers your vibration, it’s not for you. That’s how you’ll know.”

Connect with You

Modern-day living causes us to DISconnect rather than REconnect with our bodies + minds. Our bodies are constantly trying to tell us messages, but we never slow down to listen. We don’t listen when our bodies are on the verge of burnout; we don’t listen to the calming breath when we’re in a situation that lights us up; we don’t listen to the anxiety arising in our chest + tummy when we’re around a toxic person; we don’t listen to the butterflies when we’re excited by something new. We’re literally IGNORING our truth in that present moment.

We’re also conditioned to stay in our ‘comfort zone’ to play it “safe” + “small”, when really we need to treat ourselves (and life) with honor + respect, and get OUT of comfort zones that are stopping us from living our truth.

To be human is to FEEL – not just happiness but ALL the emotions to be human. When we listen to them, they can be our greatest teacher for what is helping us live our truth – Satya.

Journaling is a fantastic way of getting to the truth because you have to dive through layers. It helps us:

– peel back layers to reveal the truth
– get curious
– question things
– reflect on what isn’t in alignment
– challenge things

Every question you ask is an opportunity for you to practice + discover satya.

Grab your journals or meditate on these questions (being honest with yourself though!)

– What lights you up?
– What is FOR you?
– What is NOT for you?
– How do different people/situations/experiences make you FEEL? What physical sensations come up for you?

Alignment + Action

To make any change, we have to take responsibility for what isn’t in alignment, self-reflect, and hold our hands up (with compassion!) and take action to step into what is in alignment with our true selves – all within a safe space.

It’s not easy (the ego might get a little triggered – this is a good thing!) BUT we can’t change a problem or situation with the same mindset that created it. We have to BE the change. We always have a choice: Stay stuck and take NO action OR show up and TAKE action. How we live our life is our responsibility. But you never have to journey alone. I’m here to help you through the journey.

What I know to be true is that you give life to what you give energy to. You CAN make a change and live your highest vibrational life if you start giving energy to it. The Inspired Club helps you do exactly that.

Your People

“You journey differently with the right people in your life. The right people understand you + nourish you on a whole other level.”

How would you feel after spending a day filled with toxic people doing things that you don’t enjoy? Now, how would you feel after spending a day filled with like-minded souls doing the things YOU truthfully love?

And then you have to ask yourself, which are your days filled with? And how do you want future days to be filled? High vibe people for me please!

Some people are toxic + some people are just not for you. They’re not bad or good. They’re just not your vibe + that’s okay. We’re conditioned to think that we need to be liked by EVERYONE. There’s like 7 billion people in the world. Here’s a hard truth – you’re not going to be liked by everyone + that is okay.

Living a yoga inspired life + practicing satya has really helped me to accept this hard truth.

Validation is a natural human need but not in its excessiveness. We naturally want to belong + be a part of something. This goes back to when we would’ve lived out in nature many many years ago – being accepted + valued in a true would’ve increased our survival rate (truth right there!) That’s WHY we seek validation. To survive! But in modern day living, let’s use it to THRIVE! Let us instead seek validation from like minded souls + from people who inspire us + who we respect.

What we know to be true (satya right there!) is that social media, especially Instagram, can be a highlight reel. People have trained themselves to use a mask rather than share their truth + reality. We then make assumptions about people based on what we SEE + not what we don’t. We THINK that people have a life full of 24/7 happiness + that just isn’t true. No one can have the highs without the lows or the lows without the highs. But social media is creating this mirage of #NoBadDays. It’s just something to be mindful of + to reflect on if it’s a narrative you’re taking on as truth. Your energy + time are PRECIOUS. Be mindful of who + what you’re exposing yourself to. Is it helping you step INTO your alignment or OUT of alignment?

Bye Bye Ego

Being truthful will trigger the ego. Answering + finding the truth means that we have to take responsibility for our actions + behaviors that haven’t been truthful, genuine or false. We’re all human. It’s only natural to make mistakes. But let your past be a home you learn from, not a home you live in. As a recovering “perfectionist,” I now find it liberating + empowering to call myself out on my mess + mistakes, as it inspires me to work on myself + take action. I can’t do that if I’m not honest or truthful. It’s important that we always do this work with the practice of ahimsa (compassion + respect towards yourself).

Practice Satya

So if we know that how we journey + behave is always our responsibility, then here are some questions to reflect on:

– Can you see things in a different light? What we think to be true can actually be very nuanced.
– Can you reflect on an experience but discover what you know to be true? Where have you maybe made assumptions?
– Is there any ‘evidence’ to back up your truth?
– Why do certain people/situations/experiences trigger you? What can you learn from them?
– Where can you take responsibility through your actions?
– Where have you ignored your intuition + gut instinct?
– Where have you said yes to someone when you really meant to say no? Could you have been kindly honest?
– Do you follow through on your word? Are your words backed up by your actions?
– Do you feel like you’re heard, seen, valued + respected around certain people?
– Do you hear, see, value + respect others?
